As part of our 2014 resolutions, Dino and I promised to travel with Liam more this year. Last holy week,(yeah I know, suuuper late post again) Our original plan was to go to CDO and let Liam experience the white water rafting then spend the rest of the holy week in Malai Balai (It’s soo nice there, promise! It’s like you’re in New Zealand). But our good friend, suggested that we do it some other time as there are many tourist and travelers during holy week. So instead of staying at home, I decided to book ourselves in a resort hotel nearby.
We booked ourselves in Best Western Sandbar Resort at Cordova Mactan Cebu (check out their official website). It wasn’t that pricey and they are the only hotel that did not increase so much during peak season (1K additional only). Swak na swak sa budget! 🙂
We also decided to go yaya-less this trip. Asked Ate Donna to do a general cleaning instead. Unfortunately, Dino was not feeling very well during the trip, so most of the photos you’ll see below are of me and Liam.
It wasn’t as grand as the Shangri-La Hotel, but it was cozy and we had a fun time together. As they say, it’s not important how expensive or how grand the place is, as long as we are all together, that’s what matters!
I’m so sorry to have neglected this site for 2 months (again!) It’s already 2nd half of the year and I would say we had a fruitful first half. Well, I think and hope nothing will beat the month of May. It was the craziest month I had so far.
We started the month with Ate Donna going home to Bicol for a week for her well deserved vacation. (After 2 years of staying with us without day offs – well deserved na diba?) She asked for our permission wuth 6 monhs lead time. So prepared na prepared na talaga kame. Hehe
Lolo came to the rescue and stayed with us for the whole week while Dino and I took turns taking leave to stay at home. It was really fulfilling staying home wirh Liam. That made me think and plan for my future as a WAHM. (fingers crossed)
As for Liam, I enrolled him in swimming lessons, but he didn’t like it (he only attended the first session). Good thing the school allowed us to transfer him to arts and crafts class. Whew! Di naman nasayang ang bayad ko ni Dino. Pero since it was a crazy month, I wasn’t able to document any of his work. Bad mommy moments ko to I know. I also bought him the May crafts box from exploresandbox (I will have a separate post for this) that he enjoyed very much
As soon as Donna came back, it’s time for Dino to leave naman for the US. He have a sales meeting he have to attend to there. (info: apart from his designation as Regional Manager for VisMin, he is also the one handling Columbia Sportswear for Southeast Asian countries that are also under our company – Ahem! Ahem! #proudwifey)
This time around it was my side of the family that came to Cebu. Originally, it was supposed to be my mom and 4 nieces (on summer vacation) who will come. My brother and sis in law thought of tagging along for a weekend with all the kids and my sis in law’s sister and her family. (read: 20 pax) Most stressful week I had so far (hope that will be the last too). Oh well, I was happy that I was able to spend time with them but the stress made me rethink of doing it again. Brrrr! (shaking head) Though I know in my heart na when that time comes, I will be excited all over again. 🙂
Liam, on the other hand, had loads of fun having his cousins around. Even though he got sick, he have good memories to keep. As my SIL, Leah, have said, ang ubo at sipon gagaling overtime, pero ung memories nya forever. 🙂
A few days after Dino arrived, it was my turn to take a vacay. I joined my cousins going to Hong Kong. This trip was bitter sweet as I’m really excited to go but also hate to leave my little boy. I cried a little the night before I left – super guilty ang feeling. It already occurred to me not showing up at the airport. Pero sayang naman ang tickets ko and Dino already told me that he can handle it. I also felt na it was time for Dino and Liam to have a bonding time. So off I went.
Among the 4 of us, it was just me who is a first timer in Hong Kong. I’ve been there before but it was for work, so it’s not counter. It was really a fun and tiring trip. It was a ritual among us cousins to be awake til break of dawn talking about everything and anything under the moon. Revelations time. It was really fun catching up with them. 🙂
May was indeed a fun, crazy, stressful and emotional month! Parang roller coaster ride lang. 🙂
Suuuper duuuuper delayed post. This has been sitting on my drafts for more than 6 months now. It’s about time I post this. hehehe
As mentioned before, we were able to book cheap flights going to Boracay mid of last year. We weren’t that lucky as the place was experiencing rain showers but lucky enough as we weren’t stranded there. Kow! I don’t even want to think about the what if’s. hehe
We arrived Friday afternoon, it was already late and weather is not that good so we decided to stay in the room, play and fool around. Then we had dinner in the nearby restaurant. I really did not push walking around, as it will be harder if one of us will get sick. For me, it’s always easier to go back than have a bad experience while we’re there. The following day, we had breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant and had a walk at the beach.
I think the waves scared Liam as he let us carry him all through out our walk. We tried to let him feel the sand but to no avail. Instead he shouted: “My feet! My feet!” He doesn’t like his feet getting dirty and he doesn’t like walking with wet slippers/shoes. I tried putting him down again, so he can enjoy the sand and the water. This time he said: “It’s not funny anymore, Mommy!” hahaha.. What he meant then was that it’s not fun anymore. Oh my, the waves were really strong then, Dino and I did not dare swim and walk further either. Feeling ko aanudin kame ng dagat. hehe..
Later that morning, weather was tamer. Dino talked to a man who offered island hopping services (fish feeding and a little snorkeling) for a very reasonable price. We did swam and saw the fishes, Liam tried going down too. But due to the strong waves, he got scared and was not in the mood the whole ride back. We did not finish the agreed tour, since Liam is not enjoying anymore. He is not having tantrum naman, but we don’t feel like pushing through na rin, since the little boy is not in the mood na. He enjoyed feeding the fishes though. 🙂
That night, we went to D’mall to walk around and have our dinner. I also bought myself a dress, since I brought few clothing lang, not expecting that I will always get wet by the rain. hehe. The following day, we initially planned to have breakfast at the Real Coffee & Tea Cafe, where the famous Calamansi muffin is, but due to time and weather constraints, I have to settle with the hotel’s breakfast again. Due to my frustrations with the cafe, I ended up baking Calamansi cupcakes myself. hehe (see the recipe here)
I really don’t like to end without Liam really enjoying the trip. So before we get ready for our flight back to Cebu, I let Liam enjoy the hotel’s pool first. I specifically looked for a hotel with a pool (kahit maliit na pool pa yan, basta may pool), to be sure, as I have foreseen that Liam might not like the beach. So even if it’s a little cold, I asked the caretaker to clean the pool so we can have a dip.
Though we weren’t able to maximize our trip in Boracay, I would still say it’s a trip worth remembering. It’s really not about if we were able to swim or go around, it’s all about our time together and the memories we create together as a family.
As the whole world may know, er encountered 2 major calamities here in the Visayas. It’s really scary and I was out of my wits for a few days. Kayo ba naman yanigin (at patuloy na yanigin) at bagyuhin ng bongang bonga…
But despite all these, we are still thankful that we are all safe. No damage was encountered naman. As for our sraffs in Tacloban, all were accounted for and were safely tranaferred here in Cebu.
During the hype of the dubious earthquake, all schools here in Cebu were suspended until after the holidays (all saint’s day). It was 2 weeks of no school for Liam. I was worried he might get bored at home or he might enjoyed free play so much that he might get lazy when it comes to school stuffs. So I instructed Ate Donna to still read, sing and count with Liam and do new projects at home. 🙂
Mr. Bee project
With the use of a tissue roll core, they paint it yellow and pasted black stripe on it. Ate donna even cut out small feelers for the bees. Liam’s favorite part is putting the googly eyes. (source here)
In the sea project
Another thing I like about Ate Donna is that she is matyaga. This project was her idea and she cut everything out night before.
Balloon project
Another one of Donna’s bright ideas. She cut out the balloons using construction papers and used the excess strings Ninang Tita used during Liam’s Ice cream party. They first paint the paper blue so it will look like the sky. During these times, Liam loves singing “Ako ay may Lobo”. Maybe that’s how Ate Donna thought about this project.
Rubber Ducky
Remember the Chinese lantern project we made? We had lots of gold sequins left and Ate Donna thought of doing this with Liam… Cute no?
Ladybag project
I got this inspiration from this post and thought that Liam would love this since he’s into bugs.
Instead of using a paper plate, they cut out red construction paper and used black markers to give it shape and feet. Donna also punched holes on a black paper and use it as the bug’s spots and don’t forget the googly eyes.
Playhouse project
I bought Liam some popsicle sticks to make the popsicle sticks with velcro (I don’t know what’s the right term for it, kung meron man). I saw it online (clikc here for the source) and wanted Liam to have some. but I cant find any pre-cut velcro, so this is what Ate Donna thought of doing instead.
Handprints
After Liam got tired of squirting his sticky glue and tap tapping with all the projects, he requested for a paint project and here’s what they did.
This is another reason why we love Ate Donna. She is very resourceful, matyaga and ma-abilidad. We just tell her what we want Liam to learn or do, she follows and does it more than what we requested and expected her to do.
Liam’s vacation was not boring and unfruitful after all. 🙂
Ever since the hubs handled Columbia Sportswear brand, he goes to the US for sales meeting twice a year. One of which always falls on my birthday. 2010 was an exception (not the meeting date, but Dino did not attend since I just gave birth to Liam then. This year, Dino was able to fix his schedule so he can fly back to Manila night of my special day. At least for 2 hrs he will be able to celebrate it with me. Unfortunately, his flight was delayed and he was home few hours after midnight. Talk about irony.
Day before our trip, knowing that we’ll be out of town for my birthday, our Cebu staffs sent me a cake for my birthday. To Liam delight.. 🙂 As usual, my little helped blow the candle and he helped himself with a slice. 🙂 Ever since we came here to Cebu, our staffs never failed to make our day more special. I feel loved. 🙂
Morning of our flight, we decided to bake Calamansi cupcakes and Carrot cupcakes as pasalubong. I was so organized then, preparing one after the other. That’s why when the oven decided to break down on me, both recipes were half baked. GRRR!!! Anywya, Liam had fun doing it naman. Will just bake some more for Christmas. 🙂
Liam, Donna and I flew to Manila 31st of October for my MIL’s birthday. We were picked up by Lolo and Lola and dinner was waiting for us at home. My SIL, Leah, and his hubby, AJ prepared their famous Yogurt Chicken, Pesto Pasta and their luscious Chocolate Cake for Lola. To my son’s delight, he loved the Chocolate Ganache!
Every all saint’s day, I always help my mom out with the offering and all the rituals. But since I moved to Cebu and had Liam, I wasn’t able to this anymore. Even now that we are in Manila, I begged off since we don’t like bringing kids to such places. I’ll wait for Liam to grow a little more older before introducing him to that.
So what do we do on a free day. Leah and I decided to go to Ace Water Spa in Pasig. It was really nice and fun there. Liam loved it so much that he is still asking me if we can go back there until now. the water is warm so it’s ok to stay there for hours without worrying that the little one is getting cold na. There are so many babies there, even saw a new born in the kiddie pool with the yaya of course. We had a great time but not much pics since they don’t allow picture taking from time you get into the shower area until you are done. I appreciate this policy though. 🙂
On my birthday, we only stayed home to prepare for dinner. Liam, on the other hand, played and make himself busy. Since we are only staying for 4 nights, the in laws decided not to take all the toys out. This made me realize one thing, it’s true when other mommies say that imagination and creativity comes out naturally with kids when they have only few toys.
Lolo brought out the toy gun Liam got last Christmas, after playing with the gun (as a gun), it then became a horse, which later became an iron. hehe Liam loves (understatement) playing cars – REAL cars. He likes the steering wheel, the gear and now he met the pedals. Anyway, we were not able to bring any of his driving toys, so made use of the drawer handles. He said it’s his steering wheel and he has an imaginary kambyo (gear). Oh, by the way, there are 3 drawers on Lolo’s bed, one drawer is Hi Ace, the other is Pajeyow and the last one is Starrex. Funny little boy. 🙂
Before lunchtime, Ninang came down and do the stamp project with Liam, which later became their Tattoo. At the end of the session, Liam looked like a battered child with all the purple ink on his arms and legs. Ninang and I were not spared and have a lot of “tattoo’ on our arms as well.
That night, my in laws prepared some ‘handa’ for my birthday. noodles, chicken and pork spring rolls. My cousin dropped by to see Liam and of course celebrate my birthday with us. 🙂
The following day, we drove to Tagaytay and visited Leah’s friend’s farm to see the horses and the piggies. Liam just got up but he had fun seeing the plants and the animals there. We then had lunch at The Dining Room, Gourmet Farms. (see Leah’s post about it here). We then visited Lola Sexy’s (Ate Caro, Leah’s officemate) house and check out her Christmas decors.
After his afternoon nap, we went to see my side of the family. We went to Pandacan (my second brother, Jerry’s house) where my mom agreed to meet with us. You see my mom lived in very Farview (Fairview) and she usually stays with my bro. (hehe disclaimer agad). He enjoyed our stay there since he have a new playmate – Kongkong (my SIL’s – Jerry’s wife – nephew). They played from the time we stepped foot there til before we said our goodbyes. Sayang lang, since am not very good at taking pics, wala nanaman kameng pictures. Haist!!
Oh forgot to mention, Liam was so happy when he saw the tree being set up at Lola sexy’s home, Dino then agreed to buy one here in Cebu. This was already part of my plan, but was pushed back with all the happening here. But again, as my new matra goes, I refuse to live in fear, there are indeed a lot of reasons to love and life to the fullest.
All in all it was another well spent vacation in Manila. Til our next trip. 🙂
We started our day 2 early. Well, as you may have already read before, Liam is an early riser (another trait he got from his dad, definitely not mine.. hehe). Pati ang ninong at ninang nagising ng maaga. hehe Since our room does not come with free breakfast, the godparents bought bread, spreads and some snacks too. I brought some instant noodles naman for all. And for Liam, we ordered pancakes and omelet from the restaurant.
After our hearty breakfast, we decided to have an early swim. Liam scrutinized and ransacked the cabana first before we hit the pool. being the praning mommy that I am, I forced asked him to wear his floating vest which took me a while to convince him and to which, I also agreed him to remove after a while. Not sure if it’s really like that or maybe because I bought the cheap kind, the hems are rubbing his skins causing his skin to redden. Mas takot ako magka blisters anak ko, so I allowed him to remove na.
If you’re wondering where his ninang is, nag solo sa beach trying to find a “catch” hehe. We joined Tin sa beach after 2 hrs in the pool (longest for Liam). But I felt Liam is cold na, so we decided to troop back to barracks and relax a bit before our lunch. We had our lunch there again (one thing I don’t like here is having very few choices for our meals). Liam and Tin enjoyed the trampoline after lunch before we head back to the city.
Again, Liam was sleeping all the way back home. we all played (and drank a bit – Liam drank pineapple juice of course) before finally calling it a day. 🙂
At age 2 years 10 months, Liam knows what holiday is na. Yes, he will always say.. “Mommy, you don’t have office today? Today is holiday!” Hay… Yan lang masasabi ko. I always explain to him though what day it really is and what holiday is. For him kasi, Holiday means no office and play day. Oh well, I know for sure, many working mommies can feel me.
Anyway, last holiday for August, our long time friends and travel buddies Ken and Tin decided to spend the long weekend with us here in Cebu. Last trip we had with them was last April 2010. The gang decided to visit us here in Cebu before they all go to Bohol.
This time around, Dino felt it’s time to break Liam in to the outdoors. We decided to drive all the way to Moal Boal and spend the day at the beach. Ninong Ken and Ninang Tin arrived cebu at the break of dawn. We left a little after lunch (Liam’s nap time).
Liam enjoyed playing making fun of his Ninang.
When we arrived, while Dino and Ken are registering, Liam requested to get out of the car to look at the pond. Sad to say, no fishes there. But he enjoyed looking at the little falls.
Oh yeah, we checked in at Club Serena Resort. It’s a bit pricey but it was so nice there. The room was big and clean. The outdoor bathroom is super nice (good for couples who are honeymooning) and it also have a separate comfort room. It was really worth the price. You may check out their site to see more.
We snacked a little and prepared to hit the pool. But weather that day is not on our side, it was so windy and it started to drizzle. So we had to get out of the pool and stay in our rooms til dinner time.
While waiting for our dinner, Liam enjoyed playing in the other room. Nakalimutan ng may nanay at tatay na ang hihintay sa kabila. We got rooms next to each other with balconies na kayang i-ober da bakod. So it is very easy mangapitbahay.
While waiting for our dinner, Liam was busy ransacking the other room. He played hide and seek (hiding behind the curtains) and jumping on Ninang Tin’s bed. I can hear them shouting even with the thick wall in between us. hehehe.. Sa kabusyhan sa pag alaga kay Liam, they were not able to take any pictures na.. hehe.. As per Ninang Tin, she almost had a heart attack sa likot ng inaanak nya. hehe
We planned to have a little drink before hitting bed. But after putting Liam to sleep, everyone was so tired that we decided to call it a night.
Watch out for the second installment of our adventure.
Before I finally end this post, here’s how the beach look like..
Re-posting.. iWatermark for Windows is weird.. Had problems with my blog this am when I used watermarked photos from it. So much for watermarking.. It will take me a while to do that again. hehe.. Anyway…. here’s my post..
Ever since Liam learned to play, he never slept in transit (in plane, car or even in the ferry). Last vacation was a different story. Every time Liam’s in a car, he’s asleep. I can still remember him fighting his sleepiness. Babagsak at babagsak pa din naman siya.
Sayang lang we were not able to take other times pa na he fell asleep. Every time we’re on our back home, for sure he’ll fell asleep within 5 minutes.
Naku! Taking photos should be one of my biggest resolution this year. 🙂
With only eight (8) full days for holiday vacation in Manila, I would say that we spent it well. With the “to do” list Dino insisted for me to do. Oh well, it’s only a few and most of it is in my head lang. hehehe Anyway, we plan for Liam to enjoy this vacation and meet most of our family and friends.
We arrived Manila a day before Christmas. I wanted Liam to rest for the day to recoup and be ready for the 8 days. But my dearest boy not wanting to spoil the day by resting and not wanting to dismay his expecting audience, he showed off whole afternoon by dancing, acting, running and playing guessing games with his Ninang Tita!
We let Liam open his gift after dinner, alam ko kasi na di na kame makakasalubong, since we are all tired na.
Christmas day was spent at Lola Pasig’s (Dino’s Grand Aunt who lives in Pasig and stands as their Grandmom since Inay passed away).
Dinner was courtesy of Ate Pen, she bought us Pizza and Clam Chowder Soup from S&R.
Dec. 26, Shopping Day for me and Ate Pen. We went to 168 and boy oh boy did I miss it!! Sayang lang, sa sobrang excitement, we forgot to take photos of us being there and we weren’t able to take photos of our loots too. Next time! Liam, on the other hand, enjoyed his day driving new car (Lolo’s car; our van here in Cebu is the old car for him…), playing his alphabet mats and swimming in his inflatable pool. That night we went to Paranaque to visit my sister and had dinner with them.
Following day was a slow one. I dropped by my brother’s house in Pandacan. Did not bring Liam since almost everyone there is sick. I just dropped off our gifts and had a little chit chat with my SIL and my mom while Liam enjoyed his swimming time in the garage (again). (thanks Wowo and Wawa for the new inflatable pool.:) )
We went to Rockwell after that and was suppose to have dinner at Chili’s, kaso mahaba ang waiting list and we don’t like other restos there that night, so we drove back and ate at Buddy’s instead. (another check sa to-eat list! hehe)
Ken, Liam’s ninong, met with us there and we had a long chit chat at home after dinner. As usual, being the best host that he is, Liam did not disappoint his ninong and showed off his fore talents! hehe (wala nanamang pictures!! tsk!!)
Dec. 28, a little me time. I met with my friends, Joy, Mar and Kim in Rob Ermita for Lunch and movie date! We watched ‘One More Try” at nakakahiya lang ako at magang maga ang mata ko when we got out! I won’t say the plot was that nice, but the story was so touching. Oh well, kasi nga nanay na din ako! hehehehe
On the other hand, Dino and Liam had a father and son bonding same day. They went to MOA with Ate Donna and Wawa. After which, they went to Manila Zoo. We initially planned to bring Liam to Avilon Zoo, cleaner but farther but with the unpredictable weather, mahirap bumyahe with a baby. So Dino decided to bring him to Manila Zoo instead. They fetch me up from Rob Ermita after and he was so excited telling me about the animals he saw. Hipopopopopothamus!
Next Day, Dino decided to treat me to a date so off we went to GB5 where we had lunch at Krazy Garlic before we head to Ocean Park. (2 check marks on our to-do list).
At first, Liam did not enjoy it and got a bit overwhelmed. But after a bit of cajoling from Dino and after the underwater aquarium, he was running about, back and forth, back and forth. Until kame na ni Dino sumuko at kumarga sa kanya palabas ng aquarium! hahahaha..
Dec. 30, I was suppose to meet with Hyziel and Baby, my sisters way back from my dormitory time. But my cousins decided to have a family reunion on this day. I have to cancel my Antipolo trip with the girls and we all drive to Escolta Binondo to see my mother side of the family.
We had dinner at CPK that night. I don’t know what’s with Chili’s laging puno! 😦 Before we end the night, we went to Cuts for Tots in Glorietta to have Liam’s hair cut. Dino and I decided not to go with them, so Liam won’t make arte. Thankfully, all is well naman. Pero as my SIL said, it was a Stressful haircut.
Day before New Year, we had our annual Family picture. This time around we all wore green. 🙂 Medya Noche was again courtesy of my SIL. She prepared Bacon wrapped Asparagus and Pesto Pasta and ordered Sanwiches from Earl’s. YUM!!!
New Years Day, we had lunch with Charles and Dinah Lim with their Kids. Charles is one of Dino’s best buddies and Dinah is the first person I’m with during my dorm days. 🙂 That afternoon, we just relaxed at home and started packing Liam’s mini toy store. hehehe.. dami ng laruan e!! 🙂
Jan. 2, 2013, with a bucket of tears, we flew back to Cebu. Can’t wait for the holy weeks. Now that Liam’s 2, it’s easier for us to bring Liam back and forth na.
I know it’s too late to greet you happy holidays now. But definitely not late to greet you guys “Happy Chinese New Year!!” hahahahaha
Whew!! Finally I can post this long overdue entry.
Note to self: Always take pictures, use iPhone if Cam is not readily available! 🙂
