Liam’s 3rd Birthday at The Ranch Toledo

Happy new year to all!! I have a lot of things to posts but too little time. One at a time, I’ll get there too. 🙂 To lessen my blog lags, here’s the last installment on Liam’s 3rd party.  I really thought I’ve posted about this already, kow! Am really getting old!! Anyway, better late than never.

As mentioned in my party prep post, we decided to have an intimate out of town party this year.  We drove all the way to Toledo and checked ourselves in at The Ranch.  Aside from the pool, they also have an aviary, botanical garden and a ranch where you can try horse back rising.  I was super excited about this but we were not able to try any of it. Hehehe

We left the city a little after lunch, we thought it would only be 1.5 hrs drive as what Dino have read online but traffic was heavy at the reclamation area that day and we ended up driving for 2.5 hrs.  We arrived around 5pm and the other facilities were already closed.  So we just hit the pool before dinner. Since it was Dino who drove, he did not swim with us that night.  Nanuod at nag picture na lang sya.

Dinner was so so.  But at least they are not over priced.  We weren’t able to go out anymore for dinner as next establishment near the resort is 20mins away and jollibee lang din ata ang meron. Hehe… After dinner, it was Liam’s favorite part na – candle blowing.  I ordered his cake from Angelica’s – same as last year’s (see post here).

The cake was ok naman except for the fact that they forgot to put “mommy” on the dedication. Anak ng patola! Am the one who ordered and this is my only share, wala pa ako sa ‘love,’ part ng dedication!  After I pointed it out, the attendant quickly saud that she’ll add the word mommy, I said ok and showed her where to put it.  I clearly said to put “mommy &” before the word daddy.  Here’s what she did….

Nataranta ata samen ni Lola si ate! Haha… Pero aside from this taboo, we all loved the cake. Especially the birthday boy who ate all the sugar candies. 🙂

One thing that’s not so ok in The Ranch was that their accommodation doesn’t come with free breakfast.  We still had breakfast there para hassle free lang then we hit the pool again. Since Mr. Sun was really instense that day, Dino did not allow us to go to the aviary and horse ranch anymore.  We all settled down in Lolo and Lola’s room until it’s time for us to check out.

We had lunch at Sumibi Yakiniku Tajimaya at the Crossroads on our way back to the city.  It is a Japanese shabu shabu restaurant that Dino and I love and now the whole family loves it too.  Liam even told us one time that he wants to eat there again.  He said he wants to eat sa cook cook.  hehehe  Dino and I were not able to take pics (again), I’ll just update this post once I get photos from my SIL, Leah.

Overall, it was a great celebration. My son was uber happy with the trip and the ice cream party his Ninang Tita prepared for him.  This made me realize that a party need not be super bongacious, what’s important is that everybody (especially the celebrant) is happy.  That’s all that matters. 🙂

Vacation Projects

As the whole world may know, er encountered 2 major calamities here in the Visayas.  It’s really scary and I was out of my wits for a few days. Kayo ba naman yanigin (at patuloy na yanigin) at bagyuhin ng bongang bonga…

But despite all these, we are still thankful that we are all safe. No damage was encountered naman. As for our sraffs in Tacloban, all were accounted for and were safely tranaferred here in Cebu.

During the hype of the dubious earthquake, all schools here in Cebu were suspended until after the holidays (all saint’s day).  It was 2 weeks of no school for Liam.  I was worried he might get bored at home or he might enjoyed free play so much that he might get lazy when it comes to school stuffs. So I instructed Ate Donna to still read, sing and count with Liam and do new projects at home. 🙂

Mr. Bee project
With the use of a tissue roll core, they paint it yellow and pasted black stripe on it.  Ate donna even cut out small feelers for the bees.  Liam’s favorite part is putting the googly eyes. (source here)

In the sea project
Another thing I like about Ate Donna is that she is matyaga. This project was her idea and she cut everything out night before.

Balloon project
Another one of Donna’s bright ideas.  She cut out the balloons using construction papers and used the excess strings Ninang Tita used during Liam’s Ice cream party. They first paint the paper blue so it will look like the sky.  During these times, Liam loves singing “Ako ay may Lobo”.  Maybe that’s how Ate Donna thought about this project.

Rubber Ducky
Remember the Chinese lantern project we made? We had lots of gold sequins left and Ate Donna thought of doing this with Liam… Cute no?

Ladybag project
I got this inspiration from this post and thought that Liam would love this since he’s into bugs.

Instead of using a paper plate, they cut out red construction paper and used black markers to give it shape and feet.  Donna also punched holes on a black paper and use it as the bug’s spots and don’t forget the googly eyes.

Playhouse project
I bought Liam some popsicle sticks to make the popsicle sticks with velcro (I don’t know what’s the right term for it, kung meron man).  I saw it online (clikc here for the source) and wanted Liam to have some.   but I cant find any pre-cut velcro, so this is what Ate Donna thought of doing instead.

After Liam got tired of squirting his sticky glue and tap tapping with all the projects, he requested for a paint project and here’s what they did.

This is another reason why we love Ate Donna.  She is very resourceful, matyaga and ma-abilidad.  We just tell her what we want Liam to learn or do, she follows and does it more than what we requested and expected her to do.

Liam’s vacation was not boring and unfruitful after all. 🙂

Eggless Chocolate Cupcakes

I’m fixing my pics now and found few food pics that I haven’t post.  So please bear with me as next few posts will be all about baking and cooking. 🙂

Anyway, a few weeks ago, during our before bedtime routines, Liam just blurted out that he wants to bake chocolate popcakes (cupcakes) for his Teacher.
Liam;  I want to bake chocolate popcakes for Teacher May
Mommy (kunsintidora):  Ok, we will bake cupcakes tomorrow
Liam:  I will bring 2 popcakes
Mommy:  ok, one for Teacher May and 1 for ate Vibe?
Liam:  No, 2 for teacher May, 1 for ate vibe
Mommy:  So 3 popcakes
Liam: and one for me
Naguluhan na ko sa dami.. 🙂

So as promised, we baked his cupcakes when we get home from work that night.  I chose this recipe, cause this is really easy to do. Put all ingredients in the bowl and mix away. 🙂

Best of all, since the recipe is eggless, no worries about salmonella.  I knew very well that this will happen once this we finish mixing all the ingredients…

He even got angry with me when I tried to get all the mixture so I can make more cupcakes..

Kumati (Makati) Trip

Ever since the hubs handled Columbia Sportswear brand, he goes to the US for sales meeting twice a year.  One of which always falls on my birthday.  2010 was an exception (not the meeting date, but Dino did not attend since I just gave birth to Liam then.  This year, Dino was able to fix his schedule so he can fly back to Manila night of my special day.  At least for 2 hrs he will be able to celebrate it with me.  Unfortunately, his flight was delayed and he was home few hours after midnight.  Talk about irony.

Day before our trip, knowing that we’ll be out of town for my birthday, our Cebu staffs sent me a cake for my birthday.  To Liam delight.. 🙂 As usual, my little helped blow the candle and he helped himself with a slice. 🙂  Ever since we came here to Cebu, our staffs never failed to make our day more special. I feel loved. 🙂

Morning of our flight, we decided to bake Calamansi cupcakes and Carrot cupcakes as pasalubong.  I was so organized then, preparing one after the other.  That’s why when the oven decided to break down on me, both recipes were half baked. GRRR!!!  Anywya, Liam had fun doing it naman.  Will just bake some more for Christmas. 🙂

Baking for Lola, Lolo, Ninang Tita and Tito AJ

Liam, Donna and I flew to Manila 31st of October for my MIL’s birthday.  We were picked up by Lolo and Lola and dinner was waiting for us at home.  My SIL, Leah, and his hubby, AJ prepared their famous Yogurt Chicken, Pesto Pasta and their luscious Chocolate Cake for Lola.  To my son’s delight, he loved the Chocolate Ganache!

Every all saint’s day, I always help my mom out with the offering and all the rituals.  But since I moved to Cebu and had Liam, I wasn’t able to this anymore.  Even now that we are in Manila, I begged off since we don’t like bringing kids to such places.  I’ll wait for Liam to grow a little more older before introducing him to that.

So what do we do on a free day. Leah and I decided to go to Ace Water Spa in Pasig.  It was really nice and fun there.  Liam loved it so much that he is still asking me if we can go back there until now. the water is warm so it’s ok to stay there for hours without worrying that the little one is getting cold na.   There are so many babies there, even saw a new born in the kiddie pool with the yaya of course.  We had a great time but not much pics since they don’t allow picture taking from time you get into the shower area until you are done.  I appreciate this policy though.  🙂

On my birthday, we only stayed home to prepare for dinner.  Liam, on the other hand, played and make himself busy.  Since we are only staying for 4 nights, the in laws decided not to take all the toys out.  This made me realize one thing, it’s true when other mommies say that imagination and creativity comes out naturally with kids when they have only few toys.

Lolo brought out the toy gun Liam got last Christmas, after playing with the gun (as a gun), it then became a horse, which later became an iron.  hehe  Liam loves (understatement) playing cars – REAL cars.  He likes the steering wheel, the gear and now he met the pedals.  Anyway, we were not able to bring any of his driving toys, so made use of the drawer handles.  He said it’s his steering wheel and he has an imaginary kambyo (gear).  Oh, by the way, there are 3 drawers on Lolo’s bed, one drawer is Hi Ace, the other is Pajeyow and the last one is Starrex.  Funny little boy. 🙂

Aw Aw and Raf Raf galloping away. See the drawer with round knob at his back!??! That's his Pajeyow.. hehehe.. :)

Before lunchtime, Ninang came down and do the stamp project with Liam, which later became their Tattoo.  At the end of the session, Liam looked like a battered child with all the purple ink on his arms and legs.  Ninang and I were not spared and have a lot of “tattoo’ on our arms as well.

That night, my in laws prepared some ‘handa’ for my birthday.  noodles, chicken and pork spring rolls.  My cousin dropped by to see Liam and of course celebrate my birthday with us. 🙂

The following day, we drove to Tagaytay and visited Leah’s friend’s farm to see the horses and the piggies. Liam just got up but he had fun seeing the plants and the animals there.  We then had lunch at The Dining Room, Gourmet Farms.  (see Leah’s post about it here).  We then visited Lola Sexy’s (Ate Caro, Leah’s officemate) house and check out her Christmas decors.

After his afternoon nap, we went to see my side of the family.  We went to Pandacan (my second brother, Jerry’s house) where my mom agreed to meet with us.  You see my mom lived in very Farview (Fairview) and she usually stays with my bro.  (hehe disclaimer agad).  He enjoyed our stay there since he have a new playmate – Kongkong (my SIL’s – Jerry’s wife – nephew).  They played from the time we stepped foot there til before we said our goodbyes.  Sayang lang, since am not very good at taking pics, wala nanaman kameng pictures.  Haist!!

Oh forgot to mention, Liam was so happy when he saw the tree being set up at Lola sexy’s home,  Dino then agreed to buy one here in Cebu.  This was already part of my plan, but was pushed back with all the happening here. But again, as my new matra goes, I refuse to live in fear, there are indeed a lot of reasons to love and life to the fullest.

All in all it was another well spent vacation in Manila. Til our next trip. 🙂

Aw Aw’s Bath Time

It’s been crazy here these past 2 months.  We’ve experience calamities left and right.  I really didn’t want to write any of it down in the blog, but thought that it’s still part of our  (Liam’s specifically) history – that we were able to experience these calamities and we were able to survive it.

Between the earthquake and the typhoon, am more stricken with the earthquake.  Since I was here in the office when in struck and the fact that we are still experiencing aftershocks until last week (a strong one at that), this is really nakakatakot.  With Typhoon Yolanda naman, all offices were closed that day, so we were able to stay home with Liam.  Though it is really depressing since Yolanda was really so powerful that thousands of people are now homeless.   We, ourselves were also busy tracking down our staffs in Tacloban.  Glad to announce also that we were able to track all 8 of them.  We are now working on relocating them.  This is a better problem, diba?!

Anyway,  back to my topic, as introduced before (see my post here), Liam has 2 dalmatian stuff toys, Aw Aw (ok, I conceive, his original name is doggy, but for some reason, mas kilala sya sa pagiging Aw Aw) and Raf Raf.  Among the 2, he always favor Aw Aw.  Lately, I thought magka-level na silang 2, since he likes bringing both dogs along and even agreed to bring Raf Raf sa plane instead of Aw Aw who slept in the luggage. Well, mas presentable kasi si Raf Raf (colorwise, hehe).

After that trip, both dogs are suuuper dirty that I already talked to him to let Ate Lilia wash them both.  I specifically asked Donna to have Aw Aw washed first, since he is super Putim na.  That night, I saw the almost black Aw Aw in our room and I asked Donna what happened.

Donna:  Ayaw po ni Liam palabhan e. Si Raf Raf na lang daw.

When I asked Liam how come he don’t want Aw Aw to be washed, he smelled Aw Aw and said “di pa bantot!” hahaha ang kulit lang ng anak ko.

So with the determination to have Aw Aw washed, I asked Liam to give him a bath that weekend which he willingly obliged.

A Walk at Night

Am here in the office early.  Finished checking may Emails and need to focus on finishing our evaluations.  I also intended to do a post today about the calamity and all that am feeling and thinking.  But, I saw this post from a friend and decided otherwise.  I don’t want to be let down of what’s happening.  I need positive thoughts!!

This is sooo TRUE!! I’m sure many mommies would agree with this quote.  Ever since I got pregnant with Liam, it’s always about him and our little family.

I read Ms. Toni Tiu’s (blogger behind Wifely Steps) “Ordinary Moments Make Life Most Special” post last week and I couldn’t agree with her more.  For us, it’s the same. As I posted before, we are having the no gadget rule at night so we can focus and give more attention to Liam (and to lessen his tablet usage, hehe), since this is the only time we are together talaga.  It’s also every time we come home and Liam will come running to us with a wide excited smile in his face.  Everyday, he’s excited like that and  it never fails to brighten our day.

Oh, here’s me and Liam last night outside our gate, another of our “ordinary times” together…

Nautakan ako ng anak ko kagabi.  We are weaning him na from poh poh (carrying) na.  We want him to start walking on his own na. He does naman pero soooobrang tamad! hehe… Last night, while playing in his room, he heard fireworks (super hina per narinig nya) so we ran outside (kahit alam ko di namen makikita yun), I carried him so it will be faster for us to go outside.  After realizing that we can’t see it, I told him we’ll go inside na.  Anong sabi nya?

Liam:  No, let’s walk around …

Very seldom does he want to walk around the village (near zero possibility).  Dino always tries to invite him for a walk at night after dinner, never nag yes ang bagets.  Last night, dahil karga ko siya.. Siya pa mismo nag-yaya.  Since weather was nice last night, I gave in and walked with him around the village.  We talked about everything we can think of, the leaves, the trees, the ladies we saw at the neighbor’s lawn and stopped to greet everyone we see. hehehe

After 1 round, he wants to go around again.. But I know I might make it back since he is not the light na no.. So we decided to call his dad instead and took a photo of us last night before we went back in and prepare for bed time. 🙂  Okay, I changed my mind, this is not so ordinary at all but it’s a special moment I want to keep. 🙂

Hmmm.. I can feel the positive vibes na. Thinking and writing about Liam makes my day and it takes all the blues away..

Have a blessed Wednesday.  Need to get back to work.  Will be blogging more soon.. 🙂

Happy 3rd Birthday Liam!

“I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish enough “Hello’s” to get you through the final “Goodbye.”
— Bob Perks

To our ever cute and sweet darling baby boy,

"We refuse to live in fear,
“We refuse to live in a life of fear, there are more reasons to love life.” (taken from Dino’s FB post)

First of all, I want to greet you a belated happy birthday.  As fast as the year have passed, you’ve also grown up so fast.  You’re taller, smarter, funnier, kulit-er (if there’s such a word) and more talkative than ever.

You are more confident and independent now, not shy approaching others and talking to them.  Dancing in front of a crowd or at the stage.  You know our routine na every morning when we have to go to office, never have to cry and ran after us. You are also becoming more curious by the day, that you always ask us what happened or how something happened, what a word mean and tries to use it on your own in every possible way.

I know I say you are talkative but that’s not a bad thing at all.  You always know how to express yourself.  You also have a way with your words that you can have whatever you want.  I remember your summer teacher telling me that you can be a lawyer.  You are witty and never runs out of reasons.  You are  so fast that we can’t fool you around.  You always notice it when we misused a word or said something wrong, never afraid to correct us and laugh with us and I love that about you, anak.

As I told you last year, we are going to have a lot of fighting days.  Am sure that it will be more this year.  Then again, please keep in mind that whatever fights we may have that you will never be loved less.  That if we do it, it means we love you enough to correct you.  We just have to do what must be done to discipline you and prepare you to be the man that you will proud of.

Liam, please never stop being the funny smart little charmer that you are.  Your smile and sweet hugs never fail to brighten up even the most gloomy room.  Always remember that mommy and daddy will always have your back and that whatever we do we are always thinking of you.

Happy Birthday little boy.  I wish you enough…  We love you.  🙂

PS, we did not have that much fight naman this year. very petty and you learn fast that’s why we don’t need to fight again and again. Thank you for that anak.

Daddy and Me (Sari Saring Kwentong Mag-Ama)

Who needs television when you have Dino and Liam to keep you entertained?  Here are some compilations of their daily conversations.

Welcome Home Daddy
One morning after Dino’s manila trip, Liam woke up and saw his dad…
Liam:  Daddy is here na!! (with a wide smile)
Mommy:  Yes, daddy came home last night
Liam:  Daddy, you rode taxi?
Daddy:  Yes
Liam:  You done na ride airplane in the sky?
Daddy:  Yes
He then rolled to his daddy’s side and have him a hug and a sweet smile.
Kakataba ng puso..

Dino usually wakes up first then Liam will asked for his dad and follow him outside with all his pillows and sit with him while watching TV... :)

The Juice Story
One night, we bought Liam his favorite juice from Bubbletea as pasalibong.  He was so excited and drink it agad once we gave it to him.  Halfway thru his cup, he got busy playing and dancing and forgot about his juice.  Dino has a habit of eating Liam’s leftovers (drinking for this matter), and drank the juice as he thought Liam don’t like it anymore.  After a few minutes, he saw the glass empty and instantly he knew it was his dad who finished it.  He almost cried, but I put water in the glass and he was happy saying ‘Water juice’ and drinking it too.  I thought the story ends there.  After his night bath…
Liam:  Daddy, you ubos my juice.
Daddy:  No, it was Donna who finished it
Liam;  Ikaw yun!!
My son is so smart his dad can’t fool him..

Like Father like son, Pan de sal saw saw sa kape.
Like Father like son, Pan de sal saw saw sa kape.

Bad Words
Dino was playing with a crumpled paper and shot it in our trash bin, when he missed…
Dino:  Punyemas!
Liam:  Tunemas!
Dino:  No, daddy said, Pamunas
Liam:  Pamunas..  (with a sly smile)
Sarap lang batukan ng asawa ko diba?!

As I mention in my previous post, Liam is in a stage now where he says he wants to say bad words.  one time..
Liam:  Put…. (stopped because I gave him an angry green)
he smiled sweetly at me and said..
Liam:  Put a little more..
Now, he usually say this line and I will laugh silently since I know what’s really in his mind.  My gulay!!

My bad boys..
My bad boys..

Daddy the Joker
One night, while preparing for bed time…
Liam:  Daddy is angry.. he said “LIAM, don’t do that!”  (imitating Dino’s angry voice)
then he smiled…
Liam:  Daddy you are joke joke lang?!?!
Sino naman magagalit sa batang ito!!?

What Goes Around Comes Around Part 1
Liam has this habit of closing the room doors when we are inside.  Actually, may pag ka OC sya, he wants all doors closed lagi whether we’re inside o not.  Dino, on the other hand, is a bit claustrophobic.  He wants doors open naman or else he feels suffocated.
While they are playing inside the playroom, Liam stood up to close the door..
Daddy:  Liam, don’t close the door
Liam:  I want to close it
Daddy:  No na bacause it’s hot, so the air can come in
Liam learned to play with the doors opened na with the thought that it’s hot if it’s close… one time, Dino have to use the toilet and Liam goes inside with him.. Naturally, Dino will close the door..
Liam:  Open the door
Dino:  Don’t open the door Liam
Liam:  But it’s hot!

First cotton candy ever.. It's always Dino who introduces him to new food (not so good food that is.. )

What Goes Around Comes Around Part 2
On our way home, Liam asked if he can drive with daddy.  We are already in the village, so Dino agreed and let Liam sat on his lap.  Liam honked the horn and it was around 2pm where most of the neighbors (well, we feel) are having their siesta.
Daddy;  Liam, don’t use the horn na
Liam;  I want to use the horn
Daddy:  It’s noisy, everybody will wake up
he obediently followed and stopped honking then.  the following week, on our way to SM, Dino used his horn..
Liam:   Daddy! Don’t use the horn! Everybody will wake up!!
BOG!!! hahahahah

Another favorite bonding time.. :)
Another favorite bonding time.. 🙂

Am really happy that Liam is growing to be like his dad every single day (pati looks, nawawala na ko, hehe)  Well, except for the madaldal part. That’s all me! hehehe.. 😉

Tracing Fun

This is a super duper late post again. I almost forgot about this, if I didn’t check photos in my phone last night.  Anyway, last August, we received early birthday gifts from Maqui of Familia kiki.  I posted about it here.  One of the books they sent was the tracing book.  Maqui also blogged about this book here.

This book made it!  He was the one who asked his ate Donna to do the pages.  He grabbed the book, sat on his table and took a market.  I think the graphics and colors interested him.  Here are some of his in action pics.  As you will notice, he is still having a hard time how to hold his pen (marker) properly.  As Donna told me, he initially held it properly, but got tired and don’t want to listen na when asked to change how he holds his pen.

He showed me his previous works, and I think his favorite was the crane.  he kept on going back to it and showed it to me at least 3x. 🙂

I can say this book was so effective that it did not last a week.  Ubos na.  there were some pages left at the back, pero super complicated na for him to even try.

As of writing, we are not pushing him to practice writing anymore.  We are happy if he will initiate writing.  Pero we just let him be.  So far so good, he knows how to hold his pen properly na.  He sometimes intentionally holds his pen wrongly to tease us.  Then he will give us his sweet smile!

To Maqui, thanks again for this superb book!! 🙂

PS sorry about the photos posted sideways, tried to changed it, but still came out that way… hehe
